Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley Recognize Local Youth, Board Members, Staff & Volunteers

Date: January 18, 2019

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley and P1FCU honored outstanding youth members, staff and volunteers at their Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, January 18th, at the Clarkston Quality Inn.  In 2018 the Club served over 5,900 youth in our community, and this event was an opportunity to recognize the dedicated individuals who make that outreach happen.  The event was sponsored by P1FCU.

2019 Youth of the Year

The highlight of the evening was hearing speeches by three candidates competing for the title of 2019 Organizational Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley.  Jessica Schumacher (an 8th grader) from the Lewiston Club, Tarriq Wells (a sophomore) from the Lapwai Club, and Tori Blewett (a sophomore) from the Clarkston Club all gave powerful and moving speeches discussing how the Club had played a significant role in their lives.  The actual competition had been judged on the Wednesday prior, with the evening’s announcement of the winner.  The judge’s panel included Steve Aubuchon – Avista, Tim Winter – Superintendent of Clarkston School District, Rick Wassem – Basalt Cellars, and Kathy Poe – Long time Club supporter.

Steve Aubuchon shared highlights of each candidate before presenting the 2019 Organizational Youth of the Year award to Tori Blewett of Clarkston.  The judges had a wonderful experience throughout the selection process, getting to know these amazing young ambassadors for the three Clubs and our community.  Tori, Tarriq, and Jessica are truly an inspiration. Tori Blewett will go on to represent us at the Washington State Competition in Seattle next month.  Best of luck Tori! We are all cheering for you!
